The 4th International Symposium on SEASTAR2000 and Asian Bio-logging Science

(The 8th SEASTAR2000 Workshop)

INVITATION

It is our pleasure to announce the 4th International Symposium on SEASTAR2000 and Asian Bio-logging Science (The 8th SEASTAR2000 Workshop).  The symposium will take place in Phuket, Thailand from December 15 to 17, 2007. Aim of the symposium is to promote the exchange of knowledge and experiences among researchers in ASEAN countries and Japan to perform SEASTAR2000 project and related projects.  The first SEASTAR2000 Workshop was held in 2000 in Kyoto.  Since 2004 the Japanese Society of Bio-logging Science joined us and the scope of the workshop spread.  The symposium will be organized by Japanese institutes and Thai institutes including Kyoto University (Informatics Education and Research Center for Knowledge-Circulating Society), Fisheries Laboratory of Kinki University, JSPS Bangkok Office, Japanese Society of Bio-logging Science, Department of Marine and Coastal Resources of Thailand and Department of Fisheries of Thailand.

 

PROGRAM

The scientific sessions will cover 2 days (15-16 December, 2007) and will include oral and poster presentations, exhibits and demonstrations. The symposium program will focus on four major topics:

• Sea turtle migration and conservation;

• Dugong surveys and conservation;

• Fish telemetry;

• Methodology and new technology

The one-day science tour will be scheduled on 17 December to Raja Island by a research vessel belonging to Phuket Marine Biological Center.
