The 5th Design Symposium on Conservation of Ecosystems

 (SEASTAR2000)

December 21-22, 2016 in Kyoto, Japan

INVITATION
It is our pleasure to announce the 5th Design Symposium on Conservation of Ecosystems (SEASTAR2000).

The symposium will take place in Kyoto, Japan on December 21-22, 2016.

This symposium is supported by the Collaborative Graduate Program in Design, Kyoto University.

PURPOSE
The Aim of the symposium is to promote the collaboration and the exchange of knowledge and experiences among researchers and experts in a wide variety of domains to solve complex problems in terrestrial and marine ecosystems. It has now become an important topic how to conserve endangered species and maintain and enjoy resources in terrestrial and marine ecosystems. Because actions for conserving, managing, and enjoying ecosystems require the involvement of many stakeholders including local people and governments as well as scientists, it is important to "design" the solutions from various viewpoints using expert knowledge of various fields. Therefore, outstanding experts are needed who can collaborate with others beyond their boundaries of expertise, in contrast to "T shaped people", meaning generalists with broad general knowledge. The symposium encourages the education of "+ shaped" human resource through presentations, and discussions in the topics of conservation, management and service in terrestrial and marine ecosystems.
